Celebrate the Abbey’s Sixth Anniversary

Last week I retreated with other clergy to Glen Eyrie, Colorado. It was a much-need time of reflection and rest in Jesus in a beautiful mountain setting. While I was away, the Lord “answered in my understanding” (as Julian of Norwich would say) a question which I have been holding.

He said, “get the rest you need and keep on doing what you are doing.” First, get the rest you need. I’ve been weary lately and the Lord was encouraging me to take the time I need to rest, pray and reflect (what I tell others all the time!). Second, keep on doing what you are doing. In the spiritual life, rest and work are linked. We must rest in Jesus so we will have the spiritual capacity to do what he calls us to do

Jesus modeled the priority of prayer and rest. Though great crowds were coming to hear him and be healed, he frequently withdrew to the wilderness to pray (Luke 5:15-16).

For six years our joy has been quietly providing a sanctuary of rest in Jesus in the heart of DFW–a place to listen to God’s voice, enjoy his presence and rest in his embracing, sustaining love. We hold this space so that you can go out and do what Jesus has called you to do.

If you have experienced Christ’s renewing presence at the Abbey, I hope you’ll join us for worship and celebration on our Sixth Anniversary, Trinity Sunday, May 31 at 10:00 am.

If you would like to make an anniversary gift to support the work of the Abbey, see our Give page. We have so much for which to be grateful!
