Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction

The practice of meeting with a spiritual director is ancient, going back to the early centuries of the Christian church. A spiritual director is a trained pastoral listener who offers a safe, gracious and confidential space for you to explore your questions, concerns and noticings about life with God. Spiritual direction is an opportunity to grow and heal, notice and respond to God’s presence in your life.

The pace of a spiritual direction session reflects the slow, unhurried nature of God’s transforming work. During each session Rev. Markene offers a pastoral, listening presence, thoughtful questions, and space to notice and reflect on how it is with your soul and how God is present and working in your life. She is experienced in offering direction and care to clergy and other ministry leaders.

Rev. Markene is a trained spiritual director and founding priest of Trinity Lakeside Abbey. She is ordained in the Diocese of C4SO of the Anglican Church in North America and a member of the CSDA (Christ-centered Spiritual Direction Association). She holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in Spiritual Formation from Dallas Theological Seminary, where she served as an Associate Director in Spiritual Formation and Leadership. Rev. Markene authored the book Thrive: Life-Giving Disciplines for a Chaotic World, a gentle guide to keeping a simple rule of life.

Rev. Markene is available for spiritual direction either in person at Trinity Lakeside Abbey or by video call (sessions are 50 minutes). Spiritual direction is $75 per session and payable through PayPal. To inquire about spiritual direction, contact Rev. Markene at Markene@trinitylakeside.org.

Always God is doing something before I know it. So the task is not to get God to do something I think needs to be done, but to become aware of what God is doing so that I can respond to it and participate and take delight in it.
